Embodying raw energy, movement, and joyful resilience, Alien Dancer is a compelling figurative timber sculpture that stands as one of the foundational pieces that inspired my path into sculpting.
Standing 67 centimeters tall, the figure displays a striking dual character—viewed from one angle, a slender lead leg moves in a fluid dance; from another, a broader leg strides forward with clear purpose. Carved from blonde coastal timber gathered near Seven Mile Beach at Gerroa, the wood features a distinctive open-grain texture rich with natural character. A fascinating focal feature is a small coastal stone naturally embedded within its chest, preserved right where the tree grew around it.
Enhanced with a dark wax finish to highlight its intricate texture and mounted on a custom dark plinth, this expressive artwork celebrates overcoming adversity—a reminder that grace, strength, and jubilation are achievable regardless of imperfect forms.
